Biography
Terence Woodgate specialises in furniture, lighting and collectable design.
One of the UK's most respected industrial designers, Terence has become known for a stripped-down, elegant, minimalist approach to design with an obsessive attention to detail and manufacture, exemplified in his ethereal carbon fibre designs. Terence focuses on the art of subtraction rather than addition, distilling designs to their purest form.
His work is strongly influenced by the sculpture of artists such as Carl Andre, Eduardo Chillida, Donald Judd, Sol LeWitt and Rachel Whiteread.
In 2003, Terence was elected a Royal Designer for Industry (RDI) by the Royal Society of Arts (RSA) in London, where he is also a Fellow (FRSA). He has received numerous prestigious international design awards, including Red Dot’s Best of the Best, the iF Design Award for Ecology, the 2020 Wood Awards and the Design Council’s British Design Award.
Terence’s work is held in the permanent collections of institutions such as the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the Museu de les Arts Decoratives in Barcelona, as well as in private collections worldwide. His work has been featured in exhibitions at museums including the Enzo Ferrari Museum Modena, the Design Museum London, and the Science Museum London.
He has worked with clients including Cappellini, Case, Concord Lighting, Established & Sons, Izé, LCDA, Moroso, Objekten, Punt Mobles, RVB and SCP.
He currently lives and works from his studio in Girona, Spain.
